There are signs of growing confidence from the UK's sales professionals according to a recent survey by the ISMM that revealed that much of the UK's salesforce are relatively upbeat about sales prospects in 2011.
When asked, "What do you think the sales environment you operate in will be like in 12 months time?" A clear majority of sales professionals (55%) believe it will have improved.
But after three lean years for the UK economy, caution remains their watchword. The most popular description of sales prospects – chosen by a third of respondents – is a somewhat muted 'slightly better'.
1. Very much better 5%
2. Better 18%
3. Slightly better 33%
4. No change 16%
5. Slightly worse 16%
6. Worse 11%
7. Very much worse 2%
Stephen Wright, commercial director of the ISMM, comments: "Salespeople are the eyes and ears of business, so it is a particularly encouraging sign when they report reasonable confidence in the recovery. We started 2011 with more optimism than we did in 2010."
