Banking giant Goldman Sachs is looking to establish itself as number one in the energy trading vertical with the appointment of senior Sales Executive Alexandra Merz, who has joined form JP Morgan.
Merz was head of energy sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at JP Morgan for four years during the time the US bank rose to top spot in energy dealing. JP Morgan's energy business has grown rapidly in the last four years culminating in the acquisition of RBS Sempra Energy’s oil, gas, power and metals business last year.
In her new role as managing director and head of European energy marketing and sales at Goldman Sachs, Merz will report to Leslie Biddle, head of EMEA commodity sales. Merz joined JP Morgan in 2007 from Deutsche Bank, where she was head of European gas and power origination.
