England’s Rugby World Cup winning coach to share the secrets of his success on how to create high-performing sales teams.

Sir Clive Woodward, who coached the English rugby union team to victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup, will open the 2017 Sales Learning and Development Conference on 30 November at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

Sir Clive, the architect of England’s greatest sporting achievement since the 1966 football World Cup victory, has swapped the dugout for the conference room to deliver insight into the importance of a winning mentality and how marginal gains can have a huge impact on a team.

Now in its 4th year, the Sales Learning and Development Conference helps learning & development and HR leaders transform sales effectiveness. It is co-located with the National Sales Conference.

The conference is attended by senior L&D, training and HR managers from some of the world’s leading brands, including companies such as Aston Martin, Experian, SAS, Samsung and Sky.

This year’s event focuses on three key themes: building a learning culture for sales teams, engaging managers in training and coaching and transforming the sales operation.

Speakers include Edward Fotheringham, head of sales at Whitbread, Tiffany Poppleman, responsible for sales effectiveness at LinkedIn and George Pastidis, regional L&D consultant at Ericsson.

Sales trainer and conference host Alex Moyle says the conference programme has been designed for L&D and HR leaders to learn from peers and enable them to deliver change. They do this by meeting new peers, sharing best practices and developing practical ideas to help deliver more effective sales.

Moyle comments, “What’s brilliant about this sales conference is that it is all about leaders of learning and development sharing peer to peer about how they can engage their sales teams.”

Steve Lindsey of Lincoln West, organiser of the National Sales Conference and Sales Learning and Development Conference, said: “This conference is all about helping sales teams develop a winning mentality and maximise their performance, and you don’t get much better than Sir Clive Woodward!

“England winning the world cup in 2003 was a great example of positive team work, and we think Clive’s take on what happened behind the scenes throughout the tournament will inspire our visitors in their everyday working lives.

“As well as inspirational talks, we will also have a vast array of exhibitors to introduce delegates to innovative sales techniques, offer business advice and even drum up new business leads.

The conference is a must-attend event for anyone responsible for sales training, according to Ben Turner, general manager at the Association of Professional Sales.

Turner said, “This event is about progressing the sales profession. I don’t think there is a place where people in charge of sales enablement, training and delivery can actually get a time and place to share best practice. This part of the conference delivers that. You need to spend a day out of the office to understand what other organisations who share your challenges are doing to try and address them. This is the only place where you can go and find that out.”

For delegates, learning from others responsible for supporting and enabling sales teams is a big draw.

Chris Osborne, Sales Director at Experian said “We got so much value from hearing what other delegates in the room were talking about and the issues they were struggling with,”.

Kelly Joyce, Head of Talent at Clarify added, “It has been really insightful and I have taken something from all of the speakers. Speaking to other like-minded professionals has been really beneficial.”

Co-located with the Sales Learning & Development Conference is the National Sales Conference specifically for Sales Directors and Heads of Sales.

Lindsey added, “More than a third of our delegates are personally and directly responsible for sales revenues of up to £50 million, so this is a fantastic place to network and share best practice with one another.

“With that in mind, we are also launching a directors’ discussion forum this year so the UK’s top sales leaders can share and discuss today’s challenges, trends and the future of the sales.

“Over 75% of tickets for the event have been sold with just less than two months still to go, so we’d urge people to act fast.”
